Bio
After finishing College, Roger opened his gallery in 1976
and began making functional, high fired stoneware. All of his work was sold at craft shows, and gradually evolved into selling
selectpieces, his feathered oil candles, in galleries all over the world.
In 1980, Roger worked and studied with
the famous master South Korean Yong Dae Kim. This great friendship and learning experience lasted five years until Mr. Kim
relocated to the East Coast.
That move motivated Roger to follow a new path in his craft, and he dedicated the
next eight years of his career to the asian technique of raku. Roger would fire the large vessels and vases (some over 36"
tall) in the kiln and then put the glowing hot pots into sawdust, pineneedles. This produced amazing shades of colors all
over the pots. These creations were sold in designer showrooms all over the United States.
In 1997, Roger returned
to making high fired stoneware, which Roger continues to this day.
Although Roger and Fire in the Sky Pottery are
not offerring Raku at this time, Roger, the ever evolving artisians plans to bring together all his firing styles in the near
future, to enhance the lines of pottery currently carried in the Gallery.
